Position Description and Responsibilities:
As a church family, Valley Community Presbyterian Church (VCPC) desires to live into a renewed vision of how God is asking us to fulfill our mission to cultivate a community of followers who embody Jesus’ message of grace and love for all people. Reflecting our core value of intentional investment in the next generation, God is calling us to cultivate authentic and supportive relationships with community partners and families that they might flourish. The Director of Community and Family Engagement will be the primary staff member assisting the staff and congregation to develop and implement strategies to actualize the renewed vision.
The Director of Community and Family Engagement develops, organizes, and manages Valley’s community and family engagement ministries. Working with the Community and Family Engagement Committee, the Director establishes goals and objectives for community and family engagement ministries. The Director participates in Community and Family Engagement Committee meetings, staff meetings, and engages in the life and worship of the church.
This position reports to the Pastor and to the Elder for Community and Family Engagement on matters related to community/family engagement programs and events. The position is supported by the Personnel Committee and the Community and Family Engagement Committee.
Primary Duties:
- Helps implement the goals and objectives for community and family engagement as developed in collaboration with the Community and Family Engagement Committee.
- Cultivates relationships with the leaders of new and existing community partners
- Cultivates relationships with next-generation families and children connected with: Valley Christian Preschool and Valley Community Presbyterian Church, Raleigh Park Elementary School and other community partners
- Responsible for the oversight and expansion of our Raleigh Park Elementary School partnership
- Participates in worship services on a regular basis
- Develops, trains, and supports VCPC volunteer teams to engage in activities intended to cultivate relationships with community partners and next-generation children and families.
- Develops strategies to invite the surrounding neighborhood to the church, and the church to the neighborhood.
- Consistently evaluates and adapts ministry with the community and families.
- Works in collaboration with the Pastor, Session, and VCPC staff and congregants. Actively participates in committee meetings, staff meetings, and other planned meetings as necessary.
- Publicizes programs and events on the VCPC website, appropriate social media, in the monthly newsletters , in weekly bulletins and e-news updates, and other places as appropriate.
- Assists in creating inter-generational and faith formation activities that welcome the participation of all ages.
- Seeks opportunities for collaborations with other PC(USA) or similarly aligned faith communities
- Develops budget for Community and Family Engagement/Children’s Ministry as well as a budget narrative for the possibility of applying for grants
Required Education/Certification/Skills:
- Certificate or Secondary Education specializing in children’s education or development
- Ability to share personal experience of faith in Jesus Christ
- Excellent interpersonal skills with all ages.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Demonstrated skills working in a team environment and resolving conflicts.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products and Canva
- Willingness to continue education and learning through reading, professional development, and conferences.
Preferred Education/Certification/Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of the Reformed faith, polity and procedures as expressed in the Constitution of the PC(USA)
- Experience working with children, families, and community engagement.
- Experience leading adaptive change in a ministry setting.
- Experience leading inter-generational activities and worship experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, resource, and manage ministry teams.
- Knowledge of current church trends, best practices and cultural contexts affecting next-generation families and children

Time Commitment:
- 20 hours/week. Due to the nature of ministry, work hours will be varied.
Compensation:
- $31,000 annually, includes three weeks of vacation (total of 60 hours) per year
Pay: $31,000.00 per year
