The Spiritual Life Director provides a particular focus on chapels, retreats and conferences, our partnership with parents and the local church, Parent University, relationships with local church and parachurch organizations, staff support, and our ENGAGE and Christian service program.

The Spiritual Life Director provides a particular focus on chapels, retreats and conferences, our partnership with parents and the local church, Parent University, relationships with local church and parachurch organizations, staff support, and our ENGAGE and Christian service program.
Role And Responsibilities
- Oversight for all chapels at the High School, 5-8, and K-4, including working with chapel coordinators or Ministry Development teams on each campus, theme development, securing speakers, and creative content. Additionally, provides direct support for HS chapels by participating daily in the Ministry Development class
- Oversight for all aspects of spiritual life retreats and conferences at the HS, including Senior Kickoff (fall), Spiritual Emphasis Conference (fall), Senior Trip (spring), etc. Also provides collaborative support for similar retreats and conferences (including 8th grade trip in the spring, Senior Emphasis Week in the spring) at the K-8
- Oversight for the HS ENGAGE program including scouting new trips, coordinating travel arrangements for each ENGAGE Trip, securing all chaperones, training and preparing chaperones, creating policies, overseeing all financials (approx. $700,000 – 1,000,000), ensuring safety for all trips, coordinating all ENGAGE AZ (EAZ) opportunities during Week One of Spring Service Week, coordinating all ENGAGE US (EUS) and ENGAGE Global (EGL) trips (see above) during Weeks One and Two of Spring Service Week
- Oversight for the expansion of the ENGAGE & Christian Service program to the K-8, working collaboratively with the other members of the Spiritual Life department to establish and expand this program
- Acts as one of the School’s lead speakers/preachers/teachers at all spiritual life and special VCS community events. Examples include chapels, retreats, conferences, and special events like Night of Worship, Christmas productions, graduation ceremonies, Parent University events, etc. Likely to average 15-30 speaking opportunities per school year
- Collaborate with Bible Department (HS), Bible Teachers (K-8), and Curriculum department regarding Bible curriculum, spiritual development, and theological issues for K-12 classes (especially Bible classes)
- Work alongside other VCS leadership to administer, review, and impact measurements around the spiritual growth of students (most notably through the administration of the Flourishing Faith Index and other resources)
- Collaborate with other VCS leadership to provide resources and training opportunities for VCS parents, primarily through Parent University
- Works to ensure a robust spiritual culture among staff, which may include devotions, surveys, Bible studies, mentorships, training (Foundations of the Faith), etc.
- Supervises Spiritual Life staff (ENGAGE Manager and Spiritual Life Liaison, K-8 Spiritual Formation Manager)
- Oversees annual K-12 Spiritual Life budget
- Acts as the primary point of contact for any and all ways in which the school partners with local churches
- Depending on need, interest, and other VCS team members, may serve as the HS Bible Department Chair
- Serve on Valley Christian Schools' Deans and Directors Leadership Team
- Adhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
- Performs other related assigned duties
- Conducts interviews and participates in the hiring of ENGAGE staff
- Train, supervise, counsel, schedule and evaluate performance of assigned staff
- Oversees the overall work of assigned staff

- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver license
- Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to multi-task with organization
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement and to react with discretion under varying conditions
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

- Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with outside vendors and businesses
- Strong supervisory skills and leadership skills
- Bachelors degree required; Masters and Doctorate degrees preferred (Master of Divinity, Master of Biblical Studies, Master of Theological Studies, Doctor of Ministry, etc)
- 5 years of experience in professional ministry, school-based spiritual leadership, or a closely related context
- Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously with excellence and accuracy
- Prior experience in a SLD role or similar
- Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
- Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
- At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
- Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
- Work in noisy and crowded school environment
- Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
- Frequent walking throughout the campus
