Varsity Basketball Head Coach – High School
Valley Christian Schools is seeking a P/T Seasonal Varsity Basketball Coach to lead and develop a competitive, Christ-centered athletic program. The coach is responsible for organizing and coaching practices and games while mentoring student-athletes spiritually, emotionally, and athletically. S(H)e serves as an expert on the rules, strategies, and techniques of basketball. The Varsity Basketball Coach must also have knowledge of sports equipment, physical fitness, and safety. This position plays a vital role in fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and personal growth consistent with the mission and values of VCS.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead all team practices, games, tryouts, and related activities
- Teach and reinforce fundamentals, rules, strategies, and techniques appropriate to the high school level
- Hire and manage assistant coaching squad.
- Actively coach student-athletes during games and competitions
- Prepare the team for league and postseason competition
- Develop individual and team skills while emphasizing safety and injury prevention
- Mentor and disciple student-athletes in Christ-like character, leadership, and sportsmanship
- Assist players in selecting schools for attendance for collegiate careers and getting paperwork together for the NCAA clearinghouse requirements.
- Communicate effectively with the Athletic Directors, parents, and students
- Conduct parent meetings to explain program expectations and seasonal goals
- Assist with equipment management, inventory, and care
- Ensure student safety during practices and games by teaching proper techniques and enforcing safety protocols
- Follow all school policies regarding supervision, injury reporting, and emergency procedures
- Serve as a Christian role model for all student athletes demonstrating sportsmanship on and off the field with a willingness to be a listening ear for the students; Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.
Qualifications
- Experience playing or coaching basketball at the high school level or Athletic Administration preferred
- Experience working with high school–aged student-athletes preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Dependable, punctual, and reliable with excellent follow-through on commitments
- Ability to positively engage students, parents, and school staff
- Current or willingness to obtain required certifications (CPR/First Aid, concussion training, etc.) plus any other certifications required by (NIAAA) (CIF)
- Active membership or regular attendance at a Protestant Christian church (preferably CRC or RCA denomination)
- Demonstrated support of the Mission and Doctrinal Statement of Valley Christian Schools
Benefits Include:

- Hourly rate of $16.90 per hour (Minimum of $11,000-$12,000 for the season)
