Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Medical Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and support to individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities in various care settings. Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting to promote independence and well-being
- Monitor patient vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration, documenting changes accurately
- Support medication administration following proper protocols and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and compliance
- Provide companionship and emotional support, especially for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, enhancing their quality of life
- Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and ensuring proper nutrition according to care plans
- Operate mobility aids such as Hoyer lifts and assist with transfers safely to prevent injury
- Maintain cleanliness of the living environment through regular cleaning duties and infection control practices
- Observe and report any changes in residents' health or behavior promptly to nursing staff or supervisors
Requirements
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments preferred.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques and ability to recognize signs of distress or deterioration
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is required; additional certifications such as HIPAA training are a plus
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or memory care needs is highly desirable
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate medical equipment like Hoyer lifts or wheelchairs when needed
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with people supported, families, and healthcare teams
- Valid background check clearance and adherence to all safety protocols including HIPAA regulations
