Job Summary


The Planning Project Engineer is responsible for supporting offshore drilling projects through the development, coordination, and monitoring of project schedules, engineering deliverables, and operational plans. This role ensures that engineering, procurement, and construction activities are properly planned, resourced, and executed in alignment with project objectives, client contracts, and safety regulations. The Planning Project Engineer works closely with project managers, drilling operations, supply chain, and technical service teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with technical and HSE standards.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules for drilling campaigns, rig modifications, maintenance programs, and capital projects.
  • Translate engineering deliverables and technical requirements into integrated project plans.
  • Support preparation of work breakdown structures (WBS), project scope, and milestone tracking.
  • Ensure proper sequencing of activities across engineering, procurement, construction, and offshore operations.
  • Monitor project progress against baselines, identify deviations, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform schedule analysis including critical path and risk assessments.
  • Support cost control and resource planning by providing input on manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintain accurate reporting of project performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with engineering, drilling, maintenance, and operations teams to align schedules with rig readiness.
  • Coordinate with supply chain to ensure timely delivery of long-lead equipment and critical spare parts.
  • Support planning of rig mobilization, inspections, and dry-docking activities.
  • Identify potential risks and constraints related to engineering, design, or execution.
  • Evaluate schedule and cost impacts of scope changes or emergent maintenance.
  • Participate in contingency planning and recovery strategies.
  • Ensure planning activities incorporate HSE (Health, Safety & Environmental) standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Schedule inspections, certifications, and regulatory audits to maintain compliance.
  • Support engineering and QHSE teams in implementing safe and reliable project execution.
  • Prepare project status reports, dashboards, and technical progress updates for management and clients.
  • Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of planning processes.


Qualifications / Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, or equivalent).
  • 3–6 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, or project engineering within offshore drilling, oil & gas, or heavy industry.
  • Proficiency with planning and scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project, SAP Project Systems).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of offshore drilling operations, asset maintenance, and class/regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to work in cross-functional teams.
