About the opportunity: The Ophthalmic Technician will work with the ophthalmology team to provide patient care by performing various eye-related clinic tasks. The Ophthalmic technician will assist the provider in various functions as delegated to allow for proper professional diagnosis and treatment of patients’ conditions. What you will do:
  1. Assists providers and other clinical staff with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  2. Prepares patient for scheduled procedures.
  3. Perform ophthalmologic tests including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed within the prescribed timeline as determined by the clinic team.
  4. Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications and ensure accuracy and proper documentation in the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  5. Assist with patient pre-op and post-op counseling, procedure set up, and performing in office procedures.
  6. Fields patient phone calls promptly and in a professional manner.
  7. Calibrate diagnostic equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
  8. Maintain and clean all equipment/ instruments.
  9. Arranges for provider ordered diagnostics or therapeutic services.
  10. Ensures cleanliness, adequate stock of supplies and functioning equipment in examination rooms.
  11. Cleans and sterilizes equipment and tools. Completes shift opening and closing procedures.
  12. 12. Assists all providers and other clinical staff as needed and assigned.
  13. 13. Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, OSHA Rules and Regulations, environmental and infection control standards.

  15. 15. Preform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

  • 1 year experience with applicable experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, medical equipment, HIPAA compliance and OSHA rules and regulations

License(s):
  • N/A
Certification(s):
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or for Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Computer / Typing:
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for jobspecific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Education:

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.

Hourly Pay:

$24.28 - $33.51 USD
