Description
Our client is seeking a leader to oversee the enterprise data governance function, ensuring data is properly managed, high quality, compliant, and effectively leveraged across the organization. This role will lead enterprise governance efforts, align cross-functional stakeholders on data policies and standards, and help drive consistent decision-making around critical data assets.
The position will be responsible for designing and implementing a data governance framework, establishing policies and stewardship models, and supporting metadata and data lineage practices across a modern data environment.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance Leadership
- Lead the organization’s enterprise data governance program and governance forums
- Drive prioritization of governance initiatives and facilitate cross-functional alignment on data-related decisions
- Translate governance priorities into actionable policies, standards, and implementation plans
- Develop training, communication, and change management programs to support governance adoption
- Promote accountability and organization-wide engagement in governance practices
Governance Framework & Policy Development
- Design and implement an enterprise-wide data governance framework
- Develop and maintain policies related to data quality, access controls, retention, lineage, and classification
- Create governance procedures and best practices aligned to recognized industry standards
- Define data ownership models and stewardship responsibilities across critical data domains
- Support implementation of metadata management capabilities
- Ensure data lineage is documented across key systems and workflows
Compliance & Risk Alignment
- Ensure data governance practices align with applicable compliance and regulatory requirements
- Partner with legal, compliance, and other stakeholders to embed regulatory requirements into governance policies
- Conduct governance maturity assessments and recommend continuous improvement opportunities
Required
- 6 years of experience in data management, including 3 years focused on data governance program development
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional governance initiatives and driving measurable outcomes
- Experience working with modern data platforms, including cloud-based and event-driven environments
- Working knowledge of metadata management and data lineage tools
- Familiarity with compliance and control frameworks in regulated industries
- Strong communication, facilitation, and change management skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field
Preferred
- Relevant data governance or data management certification
- Experience in highly regulated industries such as financial services, payments, or similar sectors
- Familiarity with metadata/cataloging tools
- Experience supporting governance for streaming or event-driven data pipelines
- Advanced degree in a related discipline
