Job Title: Senior Cost Accountant
Job Summary
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for leading cost accounting activities within a manufacturing environment to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting. This role works closely with operations, supply chain, and finance leadership to analyze costs, improve margins, and support strategic and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and manage master data within the ERP system, including products, customers, standard costs, labor rates, overhead factors, routings, and bills of materials
Lead all costing activities related to new product development initiatives
Partner with supply chain to review product costs and update cost standards as necessary
Collaborate with operations to analyze overhead and labor rates and recommend updates to standard costs
Perform detailed variance analysis between actual and standard costs, identifying drivers and improvement opportunities
Support process and equipment improvement initiatives by analyzing cost impacts, return on investment (ROI), and efficiency gains, and documenting effects on standard costs
Perform account reconciliations, including inventory, standard cost absorption, purchase price variance, and waste accounts
Oversee inventory valuation processes, internal controls, and the annual physical inventory audit
Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
Support annual financial reviews and audits with third-party auditors
Participate in special projects and other related duties as assigned
Continuously identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems
Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
Self-directed with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute work independently while consistently delivering results
ERP system experience required; Sage X3 experience strongly preferred
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis tools
Solid understanding of GAAP and strong knowledge of internal controls
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments
