VA Behavioral Health LLC provides structured substance use disorder treatment services for adults in an ASAM Level 2.5 Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Our program focuses on recovery, individualized treatment, clinical support, relapse prevention, life skills, and helping clients build a strong foundation for long-term recovery.

We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, and professional Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) to join our clinical team.

Position Summary

The CSAC will provide substance use disorder counseling and support services to adults participating in our Partial Hospitalization Program. The counselor will work closely with the Clinical Director and other members of the treatment team to provide structured, client-centered services consistent with individualized treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate substance use disorder treatment groups.
• Provide individual counseling and support within the scope of the CSAC credential.
• Assist with client intake, orientation, and ongoing clinical assessments as permitted by credential and program requirements.
• Participate in development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
• Document client participation, progress, interventions, and response to treatment.
• Complete progress notes and other clinical documentation accurately and on time.
• Provide substance use education, relapse-prevention education, coping-skills training, and recovery support.
• Assist clients with identifying triggers, barriers to recovery, and appropriate community resources.
• Participate in treatment-team meetings and case consultations.
• Communicate significant clinical concerns to the Clinical Director.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
• Follow confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
• Follow VA Behavioral Health policies and procedures.
• Comply with applicable Virginia DBHDS, Medicaid, payer, and ASAM program requirements.
• Participate in required staff meetings, orientation, training, supervision, and quality-improvement activities.
• Immediately report safety concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, emergencies, and other reportable incidents according to company policy.

Qualifications

Required:

• Current Virginia Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) credential in good standing.
• Experience working with adults with substance use disorders.
• Knowledge of substance use treatment, recovery principles, relapse prevention, and client-centered care.
• Ability to facilitate structured therapeutic and educational groups.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Ability to maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Must successfully complete required employment screenings and credential verification.

Preferred:

• Previous experience in PHP, intensive outpatient, residential, outpatient, or other behavioral health/SUD treatment settings.
• Experience working with Medicaid populations.
• Familiarity with ASAM criteria and treatment planning.
• Experience with electronic health records.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
8:00 AM–5:00 PM

VA Behavioral Health's client programming generally operates from 9:00 AM–2:30 PM, with additional time provided for documentation, treatment planning, meetings, preparation, and other clinical responsibilities.

Compensation

$30.00 per hour

Full-time W-2 position.
