What your day looks like
Production roles are performed in a food manufacturing environment and require strict adherence to food safety, quality, and workplace safety standards, including use of required PPE. Employees may work in areas with variable temperatures, machinery noise, and exposure to food ingredients and sanitation chemicals. The role requires standing or walking for extended periods, performing repetitive tasks, and regularly lifting up to 25–35 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance). Imagine starting your shift with a clear plan: milk tankers arrive, whey is routed precisely, and production relies on your decisions. You manage flows, verify quality with timely tests, and keep everyone aligned—from vendors to pasteurization to packaging—so the plant runs smoothly and safely.
What your day looks like
- Direct and coordinate all liquid movements (milk and whey) across departments and with external vendors to support production schedules.
- Pull required samples and perform standard tests; record and communicate results promptly.
- Keep intake and raw milk area equipment sanitary and in top working order; complete duties on the Plant Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Maintain required licenses and certifications; support audits and inspections with complete, accurate documentation.
- Stay in constant communication with plant teams; follow the Plant traffic pattern plan to keep people and product moving safely.
- Uphold GMPs, sanitation and quality procedures specified by QA/supervisors; follow OSHA safety practices and comply with Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements.
- Handle additional tasks as assigned by your Supervisor.
- Accuracy and completeness of documentation and records.
- Meeting efficiency goals for intake and liquid handling.
- Achieving quality targets based on sampling/testing standards.
- Safety performance and adherence to procedures.
- Up-to-date licenses, certifications, and training.
- Completion of Master Sanitation Schedule records.
- Ability to read gauges and thermometers and interpret results.
- Solid grasp of basic math for measurements and calculations.
- Comfort using computer-controlled systems; able to visually assess color-change test strips.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills across teams and with vendors.
- Sound judgment with strong problem-solving and decision-making.
- Bulk Milk Weigher and Sampler License (maintained and current).
- Milk, Food, and Water Analyst Certification (maintained and current).
- Climb steps regularly as part of plant intake activities.
- Perform physical tasks associated with intake, including lifting up to 75 pounds.
