Position Summary
Responsible for ensuring that adequate procedures are in place to effectively and reasonably monitor and collect a delinquent debt. Individual will oversee any junior collectors which may be employed within the department. Responsible for maintaining various reports utilized by Credit Administration for reporting delinquencies to Credit Committee and Board. Provides guidance, coaching and training to lenders, when required, in an effort to encourage more sound collection practices. Responsible for Loss Mitigation, implementing and following mortgage servicing procedures and requirements related to mortgage loans. Responsible for management of clients under bankruptcy.
General Qualifications
Knowledge: A four year degree in a business-related field (or equivalent experience), with previous knowledge of collection and loss mitigation practices, is required.
Experience: A minimum of three years experience in a banking or financial institution with loan collection experience is required. Prior experience with the compliance rules/regulations that govern collection of a debt is highly preferred. Experience as a loss mitigation specialist for mortgage loans is preferred as well.
Skills: Position requires ability to understand and communicate regulatory and compliance skills as they relate to collection of a delinquent debt, including mortgage servicing rules and regulations. Requires the ability to manage time, prioritize and organize tasks, and work within defined timeframes. Requires strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with various internal and external contacts along with good written and oral communication skills. Must be proficient with personal computer and knowledgeable of various software applications.
Scope of Decisions: A majority of the decisions are made independently and require sound judgement and must have the ability to ascertain when decisions should be escalated for management input and approval. Decisions may be based on general guidance and/or company/departmental policies and procedures.
