Medical Records Coder – Health Information Management (HIM)

In this role, you will play an essential part in ensuring that diagnoses and procedures are accurately translated into medical codes that support patient care documentation, hospital operations, and billing processes. Your work helps maintain the integrity of our medical records while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.

In This Role, You Will:
- Review inpatient and outpatient medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures.
- Assign accurate codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 guidelines.
- Ensure coding is completed in a timely manner while maintaining high accuracy standards.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation when needed.
- Serve as a resource for staff regarding coding questions and best practices.
- Help maintain compliance with state, federal, and hospital regulations.
- Protect patient confidentiality and ensure HIPAA standards are upheld.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with coding updates and regulations.
What We’re Looking For:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year of hospital or clinic coding experience preferred.
- Certification required within two years of employment (CCS, CIC, or COC).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain coding accuracy.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, Outlook, and electronic medical record systems.
