Job Summary
Patient Safety Project Manager is responsible for the development and project management of initiatives that enhance patient safety and ensures the implementation of patient safety best practices. This role involves managing and improving patient safety and human factor engineering principles by collaborating with various departments to address barriers to providing a safe environment for patients, team members and visitors. Additionally, the team member will work collaboratively with the Patient Safety Manager to support the patient safety program through standard of work processes and projects related to patient safety.
Competencies
Communication: Demonstrates effective interpersonal communications skills.
Project Management: Lead and manage specified patient safety projects from initiation through completion, including project planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting. Obtains, consolidates, and maintains project materials and reports in an organized manner. Organizes meetings to keep projects assigned on schedule. Manages projects assigned and collaborates with leaders and other team members. Prepares, organizes, and presents projects, as assigned. Maintains detail and tools to assist leaders in managing budgets. Process documents, prepares reports, trouble shoot issues, reconcile, and collaborates with leaders to ensure proper submission of projects assigned. Data entry into various databases, along with coordination, extraction and merging of data to produce reports requested for projects assigned. This role will manage multiple projects and coordinate applicable administrative details that span across UVA Community Health.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with clinical, administrative, and support teams to address patient safety concerns and support the Patient Safety program in the implementation of solutions. Facilitate communication and cooperation among departments to improve patient safety processes.
Data Analysis: Analyze patient safety electronic submissions surveys, and other data sources to identify trends and issues. Prepare reports and presentations for the Patient Safety Manager.
Policy and Procedure Development: Assist the Patient Safety Manager in the development and refinement of policies and procedures related to patient safety. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and best practices.
Training and Development: Design and deliver training programs for staff on patient safety and human factor and error prevention skills. Foster a patient-centric culture within the organization.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: high school diploma/GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting required. Licensure: N/A
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to use Microsoft Office tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio. Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed for project assignments.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Prior experience managing projects.
