Overview
Utility Line Services, Inc., an underground utility contractor located in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Claims Manager to oversee and coordinate claims processing within our organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a comprehensive understanding of insurance procedures and risk management. This role involves managing complex claims related to workers' compensation, vehicle accidents, underground utility hits, property damage from customers, and claims from customers of the utility companies, ensuring efficient resolution while maintaining compliance with industry standards. This position reports directly to the Corporate Controller, who approves all risk management and claim management activities.
Principal Responsibilities:
Risk Management & Pre-Claim Activities
- Establish and maintain insurance claim handling workflows for ULS/GWS employees, etc. Share same with Broker and carrier(s).
- Document & maintain information on designated insurance company claim handlers & claim managers.
- Document information on insurance broker contacts.
- Establish and maintain workers’ compensation physician panels, inclusive of ancillary medical management vendor partners, such as WorkCompvidence.
- Establish and maintain insurance defense counsel relationships for the defense of automobile, general liability and workers’ compensation litigation.
Types of claims handled:
- Vehicle Accidents
- Worker’s Compensation
- Claims/reports received from police for vehicle accidents
- Underground utility hits
- Claims received from our customers.
- Claims from customers of the utilities’ companies.
These are filed with the appropriate insurance broker/carrier as needed. Includes Cyber, Crime, etc.
Insurance Renewal Applications:
- Occurs annually. The Broker will direct needs and assist where needed.
- Complete applications. Obtain what is necessary from various personnel within ULS/GWS.
Manage Subcontract Agreements
Certificates of Insurance (COI):
- Obtain a Certificate of Insurance from sub-contractors of ULS.
- Contact Broker when our Certificate of Insurance is requested by others.
- Reasons where our Certificate of Insurance (COI)s are needed:
- Bidding jobs which require a COI.
- Buying vehicles, equipment and trailers which require COI.
- Provide customers updated COIs upon expiration of the prior.
- Maintain records of all COI’s
Alleged Violation Reports – must be prepared and submitted, within 10 days of when underground utilities are damaged because of our work. Investigation must occur and the report must be accurate as they are scrutinized by the Public Utility Commission’s Damage Prevention Committee.
- Compile pictures and all pertinent information.
- Develop a relationship with the Damage Prevention Committee of the PUC.
- Become knowledgeable of the Pennsylvania One Call law (POC).
Weekly Financial/Claims Meetings – report claims and investigation results to the management team.
- Meet with ULS/GWS senior management to discuss claims for all divisions on a weekly basis.
Other Functions
- Keep updated in industry trends and coverage changes
- Other duties as assigned by superiors
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience
- Supervisory and/or management experience preferred
- Minimum 5 years of insurance industry experience in claims and/or risk management positions
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Must have the ability to be flexible and be available 24/7.
- Must stay abreast of changes in the Insurance industry
- Must be organized and detail-oriented and possess a positive attitude
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
