UTHealth Houston’s Allergy and Immunology Clinic is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Staff Nurse to join our collaborative, patient-centered team. In this vital role, you will help deliver comprehensive care to patients and families with complex, often unpredictable healthcare needs, ensuring every interaction is safe, effective, timely, and equitable. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in Allergy & Immunology, Ambulatory care, and Ambulatory Epic, as well as those who are bilingual in English and Spanish. Additional preferred skills include Allergy Skin Testing, Intradermal Testing, Oral Food Challenges, and Oral Medication Challenges, which help us provide the highest level of specialized care to our diverse Houston community.

Position Summary:

Functions as a member of collaborative interdisciplinary team providing comprehensive care to patients and families with complex healthcare needs that may be both predictable and unpredictable. Aims to provide care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient and equitable.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.
  • Adheres to broad scope of practice as established by Nurse Practice Act.
  • Ensures the efficient operation of the clinic or unit by proper scheduling and planning for optimum use of staff and resources, maintenance of stock and supplies, and efficient and safe use of equipment.
  • Uses systematic approach to provide nursing care to patients and families/populations by performing focused and comprehensive assessments through subjective and evidence based objective data.
  • Prioritizes, synthesizes and documents assessments and nursing plan of care using critical thinking and judgment.
  • Implements plan of care within scope of practice through assignment and monitoring of other nurses and delegation and monitoring of unlicensed staff. Initiates standing orders for prescription refills and labs as well as standing delegation orders where appropriate.
  • Develops and implements teaching plans concerning maintenance, promotion and restoration of health. Evaluates patients' responses and outcomes to education and therapeutic interventions.
  • Communicates effectively with collaborative team while escalating critical results and issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Exercises judgment while coordinating care and referring patients to agencies or health care professionals for other services/transitions in care where indicated.
  • Performs onsite and telephone triage using best practice guidelines and documentation to ensure patients receive the right level of care in the right setting at the right time by the right caregiver using the right equipment and supplies.
  • Acts as a patient and healthcare advocate by maintaining a safe environment and promoting quality healthcare and services.
  • Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Adheres to standards of practice for professional nursing.
  • Acts as a clinical and leadership resource for team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Uses typical office and clinic equipment.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with one year nursing experience required Associate's Degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with three years nursing experience required Nursing Diploma (3 year program) and two years nursing experience required

Minimum Experience:

  • Years of experience varies based on education level required

Physical Requirements:

  • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

  • This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code
  • 51.215 and Texas Government Code
  • 411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code
  • 117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
