JOB ANNOUNCEMENT The Utah County Sheriff’s Department is the law enforcement agency in the county and is responsible for the preservation of the peace. The Sheriff and deputies make arrests, oversee the courts and the County Correctional Facility, and prepare legal documents for the Sheriff’s sale. Important Information: This is a seasonal position without benefits, with the employment period from April 15th to October 15th. Interviews are scheduled to begin in early November 2025. The Position: This part-time, seasonal role is typically hired once a year in January. However, we keep the job open in case we need to backfill a position. Applicants who meet the specified qualifications and additional screening criteria will be referred for a hiring interview. The Human Resources Office will continue to consider qualified candidates as needed until all positions are filled. The Opportunity: Under the direction of a Lieutenant or Captain, the Fire Fighter-Wildland performs wildland fire suppression, management, and control activities as part of an engine, module, or hand crew. Other duties include fire prevention, patrol, detection, prescribed burning, and emergency response to all-risk incidents. This position falls under the Wildland Fire Division in the Sheriff’s Office. Applicants must complete basic wildland courses to acquire the necessary skills. Starting Pay: $18.87 per hour Job Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education and Experience: Preference may be given to applicants with wildland fire experience. Preference may be given to applicants who have successfully completed advanced training and requirements in wildland fire suppression tactics. Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age prior to the start date. Applicants must possess or be able to obtain certificates S-130, S-190, and L-180, or Wildland Fire Certification, before June 1 or prior to the start date if after June 1. Applicants must pass the work capacity test or “pack test” with an arduous rating, which requires completing a three (3) mile walk carrying a forty-five (45) pound pack in under forty-five (45) minutes. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a valid State of Utah driver’s license within sixty (60) days of employment. Selected applicants will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Successful candidates will undergo a background check and drug screening prior to employment. UTAH COUNTY IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Assessor The Utah County Assessor's office is responsible for classifying all property in the county; in cooperation with the Recorder's office, associate ownership with the property; establishing a taxable value for all property subject to property taxation; and compiling this information into reports that are utilized by the Auditor's office to calculate tax rates and the Treasurer's office for collections. Attorney The County Attorney's Office protects Utah County by vigorously prosecuting and investigating crime, compassionately assisting crime victims, and by providing the highest quality legal representation to Utah County Government. Auditor The County Auditor investigates all financial claims against the county and pays the bills. The Auditor’s Office also examines the financial books kept by the other county officials to see that accurate and complete records are maintained. Clerk The County Clerk conducts all elections in Utah county pertaining to county, state or national offices. Marriage licenses and passports are also processed in the Clerk’s Office. Recorder The County Recorder keeps the official records of the county, recording mortgages, deeds, and other documents involving property. The Recorder also maintains up-to-date maps which show current ownership of every section of land. Sheriff The County Sheriff is the law enforcement officer in the county and is responsible for the preservation of the peace. The Sheriff and deputies make arrests and prepare legal papers for Sheriff's sale. The Sheriff also oversees the County Jail. Surveyor The County Surveyor Office identifies and protects the section corner monuments that define record title (real property) interests. The Surveyor Office acts as a depository for all records of survey and is responsible for performing survey work for Utah County. Health The Utah County Health Department seeks to prevent avoidable disease and injury, and promote health by monitoring the health of the community, and assuring conditions in which people can be healthy. Information Systems The Information Systems department provides technology support to all Utah County government agencies. This support includes acquisition, deployment and management of computer-based workstations, software applications, local and wide-area network infrastructure, security, and information use policy. Children's Justice Center The Children's Justice Center is a homelike facility which serves children and families who are experiencing the crisis and chaos that comes with the disclosure of significant physical or sexual abuse of a child. Human Resources The County Human Resources Office provides full Human Resource services including payroll and benefits for approximately 1,200 Utah County employees. Justice Court The Utah County Justice Court is established by Utah County and has the authority to deal with class B and C misdemeanors, violations of ordinances, small claims, and infractions committed within County jurisdiction. Public Works The Utah County Public Works Department is a multi-service Department within County government operating in the areas of Administration, Buildings, Engineering, Mapping, Motor Pool, Parks, Roads, Special Projects, Surveying and Telecommunications. .
