Patient Services Representative
FULL TIME FLOAT
NON- EXEMPT
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Greets, instructs, directs, schedules and gathers insurance information for patients and visitors. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff. Work is performed in reception area. Involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with sick people.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of business office procedures. Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation in order to accurately input patient information. Skill in operating a computer, facsimile, scanning and photocopy machine. Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak in a clear and concise manner. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public. Ability to be on time and ready to work. Prefer one-year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
- Check in patients, verifies and updates necessary information in the medical record.
- Maintain appointments as requested and follow office scheduling policies.
- Answer telephone, screens calls, takes messages and provides information.
- Fax, copy, scan and file patient charts as requested. Pulls next days’ charts and maintains daily reports for all medical charts.
- Sort and deliver mail, medical records and other correspondence.
- Screen visitors and respond to routine requests for information.
- Maintain work area and lobby in a neat and orderly manner.
- Professional/as scheduled punctuality and attendance.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Attend all other meetings as required.
- Work with PMS and EMS Systems.
- Scanning patient files.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to OSHA policies and procedures as they relate to the front office.
- Adhere to all compliance and regulatory statutes as outlined by clinic policy.
- Adhere to HIPAA policies and procedures as they relate to the front office.
- Perform related work as required.
- Other duties as assigned
TYPICAL PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires sitting for long periods of time, working in an office environment. Manual dexterity required for use of calculator and computer keyboard. May lift up to 50 pounds.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma required
