The Cerebrovascular Diseases and Stroke Section is a core part of the Department of Neurology that is undergoing a period of rapid growth and transformation. Under the leadership of Dr. Elan D. Louis, our Department Chair since 2020, we have quintupled NIH funding over the past five years, expecting to be within the top 15 - 20 departments in the upcoming Blue Ridge Institute rankings, with the goal of entering the top 10 within five years. Clinically, UTSW has one of the largest stroke programs in the U.S., including two Comprehensive Stroke Centers. We have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Nation’s top 20 hospitals for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

We invite applications from candidates with expertise in stroke and CVD epidemiology, population health, aging research, or a related field to join our dynamic research team. The successful candidate will lead and collaborate on cutting-edge clinical research projects focused on stroke and CVD epidemiology, population health, or aging research, with an emphasis on advancing our understanding of disease prevention, treatment, and outcomes. Key Responsibilities:

·         Design and conduct original research on stroke and CVD epidemiology, population health, aging research, or other neurological disorders.

·         Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement research projects.

·         Analyze and interpret complex data, utilizing advanced statistical techniques.

·         Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at national and international conferences.

·         Secure external funding to support ongoing research initiatives.

 

·         Contribute to the mentorship and professional development of junior researchers and trainees.

 

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH) or MD with additional training in epidemiology, health services research, population health, clinical investigation, or a related field.
  • Board certified/board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for adult or child neurology
  • Completed fellowship in Stroke/Cardiovascular disease
  • Proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Preference will be given to candidates with successful history of obtaining external research funding (NIH, VA, or professional societies)
  • Strong statistical and data analysis skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research enviornment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and mentoring trainees
