Job Summary
Assists in
the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients. Performs procedures for diagnosis, treatment
(including venipuncture and IV therapy), referrals and patient education. Participates in organizational improvement
and teamwork. Reports to the Assistant
Director of Clinical Services for nursing and compliance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Performs intake interviews, which includes taking history of present illness and vital signs. Thorough documentation of all activities, including telephone calls, is expected. Provides patient education as needed.Utilizes age and cultural knowledge to individual patient care. Administers oral, intramuscular and some intravenous medications, intravenous fluids, immunizations and nebulization treatments as per orders.
- Assists with examinations, surgery, basic treatments, and diagnostic screenings. Examples include: Dressing changes, suture removal, ear lavage, eye exams, and vision screens. Measures peak flows, pulse oximetry, and EKG as needed. Assists in the collection of blood, urine, and other body fluids samples.
- Oversees stocking and maintaining medical supplies, stocking, and maintaining the drug cabinets located in the immunization rooms, and maintaining equipment in patient care. Participates in planning for safe patient care. Assists Assistant Director of Clinical Services in ordering medical supplies/equipment. Oversees all allergy injections and any paperwork relating to allergy injections. Trains all new nurses under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Clinical Services
- Assists the Assistant
Director of Clinical Services with all accreditation.
issues/performance improvement activities that arise. Attends any meetings when the Assistant Director of Clinical Services is absent, if appropriate. Works in conjunction with Assistant Director of Clinical Services in oversight of Infection Control Program/Safety Program. Ensures exam/procedure rooms are cleaned daily. Ensures biohazardous materials are discarded daily. Performs sterilization of medical instruments and maintains records. Makes and tracks referral appointments for patients to outside physicians and diagnostic procedures. Keeps and maintains records for review by Assistant Director of Clinical Services and Medical Director. - Performs other duties as assigned.
