Travel is required for this position. Travel does not typically require overnight stays. Mileage to and from trainings and meetings is reimbursed. *It is expected that the candidate would live in or near the assigned region of the state. The Associate Clinical Instructor, also referred to as Autism Specialist, will conduct the following job responsibilities: Provide education and training to families of children with autism, educational personnel, members of the community, and significant others in the north central region of West Virginia. Assigned to, but not limited to, the following counties: Marion, Taylor, Harrison, Doddridge, and Lewis . This is an off-campus position. Ideally, the candidate would live in or within 20 miles of the assigned counties. The Autism Specialist will lead and conduct family-centered planning activities and provide multi-tiered positive behavior supports to registered individuals diagnosed with ASD , family members, caregivers, educators, and others significant to their lives. Supports are categorized into three tiers: Tier I services include general support that can be helpful to all individuals diagnosed with ASD , families or caregivers of those individuals, and those who provide education and support to increase their knowledge and understanding of ASD . Tier II services provide information and support to individuals, their families, educators, and community professionals. Tier II services are narrowly focused and have a service timeline that is well-defined. Tier III services rely on a team-based approach and provide intensive support and training to those supporting the individual with autism spectrum disorder. Teams typically include family members, the individual with ASD , educational and/or behavioral health staff, and others involved in the individual’s life. The Autism Specialist facilitates training, coaching, and the development of a Positive Behavior Support ( PBS ) plan through collaboration with team members. Individualized skill development programs are developed by the team and implemented across all settings (home, community, and school) with an emphasis on improving the individual’s and family’s quality of life. The Autism Specialist will develop and provide various community and educational trainings on PBS and special topics related to autism for registered clients, families and community partners of the WV ATC . The Autism Specialist will also be responsible for delivering informational and/or educational training programs to local communities. The purpose of these trainings is to provide the general community, professionals, family members, and the individual with focused information, resources, and support to promote increased understanding of ASD related topics and increased quality of life for individuals. Autism Specialists may work independently or together with other specialists to develop community and outreach resources. Community and educational training can include presentations on specific topics, community events, focused workshops, and social skills groups. The successful candidate will: have excellent written and communication skills; develop and conduct assessments of behavior and skills including functional assessments; use experimental research designs to make data driven autism program decisions; design assessments of current levels of functioning of individuals with autism; and prepare written reports of outcomes for presentations at state or national conferences, or for publication in professional journals and newsletters.
