Under the direction of the Press Manager, the Press Supervisor oversees press and computer-to-plate (CTP) operations across assigned shifts to ensure safe, on-time, high-quality production. The role is accountable for production planning and for scheduling planned production in MPS/ABB, including coordination of staffing, materials, and priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop production plans and schedule planned work in MPS/ABB; publish schedules and communicate changes to production teams.
- Oversee press and CTP operations across assigned shifts to achieve on-time delivery, quality standards, and waste-reduction targets.
- Coordinate staffing, training, and daily assignments; provide direction, coaching, and on-floor support to operators.
- Ensure press set-up, make-ready, and color/quality controls meet established standards; troubleshoot issues to restore production promptly and minimize waste.
- Oversee plate production and workflow to support scheduled press runs.
- Coordinate maintenance and repairs; ensure machine guarding, safe work practices, and required PPE are consistently followed.
- Maintain accurate shift and production reporting; communicate downtime, constraints, and supply needs to protect schedule adherence.
- Oversee departmental safety training and performance compliance; ensure all required training is completed on or before established deadlines.
- Promote housekeeping and regulatory compliance; reinforce PPE use and safe work practices; ensure hazards, injuries, and near misses are reported immediately.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; prior press operator experience; minimum of three (3) years as a lead operator or assistant supervisor operating similar equipment
- Knowledge of operating and maintaining large newspaper presses, including Mitsubishi Lithopia and Wifag 371
Strong communication skills; effective organization, prioritization, and accurate shift reporting
- Basic mathematical skills and mechanical aptitude; strong attention to quality
- Working knowledge of production scheduling systems (Goss, MPS/ABB, Newsway preferred)
Physical Demands & Work Schedule
Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 2,000 lbs. (pallet jack assisted). Requires prolonged standing; stair climbing on a six-level press structure;
and occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to work safely in confined areas; color vision is required.
This position requires full-time shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
