Responsibilities

  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality
  • Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards
  • Performs two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses of cardiac and vascular structures using ultrasound equipment to include echocardiography, stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacologic),transesophageal echocardiography, intraoperative TEE, carotid duplex scan, upper and lower extremity peripheral arterial exam, upper and lower extremity peripheral venous exam, transcranial doppler, deep and superficial venous exams, upper and lower extremity vein mapping, exercise stress, ankle-brachial indices, intraoperative vascular ultrasound
  • Obtains and records appropriate velocities and calculates measurements according to procedure protocols
  • Obtains appropriate 2D measurements using equipment measurement tools
  • Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to diagnostic findings
  • Operates and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal image quality
  • Adheres to IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) standards
  • Optimize imaging parameters and adjust techniques based on patient condition
  • Assists in maintaining lab accreditation and regulatory readiness
  • Ensure accurate image acquisition, labeling, and documentation in reading system
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members
  • Provides accurate preliminary reports to physicians on venous studies per department protocols
  • Provides thorough documentation of all procedures performed including procedure worksheets, patient demographics, and various log books
  • Recognize and document abnormal findings and ensure timely communication of critical results per policy
  • Administer ultrasound contrast agents in accordance with facility policy and scope of practice
  • Administer agitated saline contrast for bubble studies in accordance with facility policy and scope of practice
  • Accesses the Clinical Information System using a PC
  • Assists the RN and physician in preparation and discharge of patients having special procedures
  • Participates in departmental research projects, quality monitoring and statistical Information as assigned
  • Cleans and monitors equipment, and reports equipment failure/problems to supervisor
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and department
  • Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict
  • Cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit
  • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Performs cleaning, inventory control.
  • Stocking of equipment and supplies
  • Ensure patient safety, comfort, and proper identification prior to all procedures
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Adolescent/Athlete, Adult, Geriatric, Bariatric, Pregnant patients
  • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone
  • Responds to overhead pages and digital pages
  • Responds to electronic message system while on duty
  • Accesses and accurately maintains electronic medical record
  • Participates on committees as assigned
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned
  • Maintains efficient workflow while ensuring high-quality imaging
  • Supports timely patient throughput to minimize delays in care
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to recognize emergent findings and act appropriately
  • Works assigned schedule including overtime and call as required
  • Participate in on-call, weekend, evening, or holiday coverage as required by departmental staffing needs.
  • Exhibits an acceptable work ethic as evidenced by regular and prompt attendance, as well as following all timekeeping/clocking policies.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics when moving positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety and when moving equipment/supplies necessary to performing essential functions.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned


Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved cardiac or vascular ultrasound training program from an accredited institution, or 2 years of cardiac or vascular ultrasound experience Required
  • RDCS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Upon Hire and
  • RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Upon Hire Required or
  • RCS - Registered Cardiac Sonographer Upon Hire Required and
  • RVS - Registered Vascular Sonographer with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Upon Hire Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
