Scope of Role
Under direct supervision, the Lab Assistant is responsible for collecting and processing patient specimens, performing basic analysis, maintaining lab equipment, and supporting patient flow. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate and timely lab results while upholding safety and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Collect specimens from patients as ordered
- Document and process lab results according to established procedures
- Perform basic analysis of chemistry, hematology, and immunology specimens
- Maintain lab inventory and ensure supply viability
- Send specimens to reference labs and chart incoming results
- Operate and maintain lab equipment under CLIA guidelines
- Perform phlebotomy and sample collection as needed
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and safety protocols
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Qualifications
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- 0-3 years of relevant experience (entry-level welcome!)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Comfortable working in a clinical environment with potential exposure to biohazards
Physical & Work Environment
- Requires manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Exposure to patients, blood/body fluids, and laboratory chemicals
- Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods and maintain a clean, organized workspace
