Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support our Radiation Oncology program.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider passionate about delivering cutting-edge cancer care to join our Radiation Oncology team at Virginia Oncology Associates. In this role, the APP will work collaboratively with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, medical physicists, nurses and other oncology professionals to support patients though all phases of radiation treatment. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and compassionate clinician who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment, is eager to contribute to program development, and is committed to enhancing the patient experience through innovation, education, and evidence-based care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for radiation oncology patients in an outpatient setting
  • Initiate and document appropriate radiation oncology interventions
  • Prescribe drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assess patient and family needs
  • Provide education to patients, families, and staff using evidence-based strategies
  • Promotes/provides staff education
  • Serve as a liaison between medical oncology, inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting
  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice
  • Order diagnostic tests, imaging, or consults in collaboration with physicians
  • Perform, interpret, and communicate results within scope of practice
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on patient care, program development, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Manage and provide clinical care for patients enrolled in research protocols, ensuring adherence to study requirements and coordination with research teams
  • Contribute to departmental performance improvement activities by reviewing patient outcomes and implementing change
  • Oversight of patient care within the radiation oncology suite, ensuring safe processes
  • Maintain compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and documentation requirements.
  • Champion and lead a survivorship clinic, providing ongoing care and support for patients post-treatment, with a focus on long-term health, wellness and quality of life

Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant radiation oncology experience is preferred; however, motivated new graduates with a strong interest in radiation oncology are encouraged to apply
  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Must be willing to travel
