JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Managing Director of Technology Infrastructure, the Server & Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the Federation’s server infrastructure and Microsoft SQL Server environments. The role ensures system reliability, performance, security, and business continuity across on‑premises, virtualized, and cloud‑based platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain, monitor, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Perform database backups, integrity checks, and recovery testing.
- Support database patches, upgrades, and maintenance plans.
- Ensure data availability, integrity, and security.
- Maintain and support Windows Server and Linux systems.
- Perform system patches, updates, and upgrades.
- Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, and service issues.
- Provision and optimize virtual machines.
- Maintain and support Azure Site Recovery for business continuity and disaster recovery.
- Work with the Systems Administrator to ensure reliable backup processes and data protection strategies.
- Test and validate restoration and failover procedures.
- Support disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Work with the Network Security Administrator to apply security patches and system hardening best practices.
- Maintain access controls and support audit requirements.
- Provide Level 2 user support for escalated issues and service tickets as needed.
- Assist with troubleshooting complex infrastructure or application issues.
Required, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
- Experience administering Windows Server environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure (preferred).
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (preferred).
- Experience with Azure Site Recovery (preferred).
- Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash) (preferred).
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting systems (preferred)
- Experience supporting high-availability environments (preferred).
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree or higher, or equivalent experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional evening and weekend work required for maintenance and upgrades.
- Availability to respond to critical outages or emergencies as needed.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. (Anything over 25 pounds requires a two-person lift)
