Duties

  • Plans and conducts flight training while evaluating graduate and undergraduate aviators on pre-flight through post-flight tasks and maneuvers.
  • Review and evaluation of work is based on visits to ground classes, pre-flight and post-flight debriefs, observation of flight techniques, student end of course critiques, and reports from checks and standardization flights.
  • Perform Proficiency Flight Evaluations (PFEs) to re-establish currency, Instrument Evaluations, post mishap evaluations, mentorship flights, Resident Instructor Training (RIT), and medical flight evaluations IAW applicable regulations/SOPs.
  • Instructs and evaluates academic topics in accordance with TC 3-04.11 or current, equivalent publication(s), the aircrew catalogue of academic topics (ACAT), current Army and Aviation doctrine.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as maintaining files and records, completing and maintaining grade slips and folders on students.

  • Must obtain and maintain Secret background investigation.
  • Incumbent requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating. MUST attach a copy front and back.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Incumbent must successfully obtain and maintain an annual Army Class II Flight Physical.
  • This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that includes minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings. Meeting the applicable flight hour requirements and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position which includes instructing/evaluating rated and non-rated pilots in flight procedures in the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter in tasks such as primary, basic and advanced instrument, combat skills (tactics and terrain techniques) and conducting classroom instruction on training maneuvers and techniques, aircraft systems, and night vision systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

MINIMUM FLIGHT HOURS REQUIREMENT:

Total Flight Hours- 1500

Pilot in Command - 250

Night Flying - 75

Flying Time in the Last 12 Months - 100 (may be waived)

Instructor Hours - 500

Instrument Hours - 75
