Fleet Maintenance Mechanic
Position Overview
Skilled position performing scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on industrial equipment and vehicles including forklifts (electric and LP), aerial lifts, personnel carriers, and automobiles/trucks. Diagnoses, disassembles, and overhauls electrical systems, motors, drive systems, rear ends, brakes, and assemblies with high degree of independence. Personal tools not required.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose vehicle failures and disassemble, repair, and reassemble parts
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections on fleet vehicles
- Maintain and repair fleet equipment per established procedures
Operations Support
- Answer service calls promptly and effectively
- Maintain accurate vehicle records and documentation
- Complete all necessary paperwork and daily checklists
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and maintain inspection records
Quality & Safety
- Follow preventive maintenance programs and safety protocols
- Ensure all repairs meet quality and safety standards
- Maintain organized and safe work environment
Required Qualifications
Basic Requirements
- At least 18 years of age (21 if CDL required)
- Pass drug test and background check
- Pass validated selection test
- Ability to perform physical movements including lifting, pinching, bending, reaching, climbing, and object manipulation
Technical Experience
- Forklift repair experience (propane fuel systems, hydraulic systems, palette jacks)
- Mechanical knowledge of industrial equipment
- Experience with hydraulic and brake systems
- Understanding of preventive maintenance programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Computer instrumentation experience (desktop, hand-held, laptop computers for diagnostics and work orders)
- Manufacturing standards knowledge and current technology awareness
- Class A or B CDL with truck driving experience
- Heavy truck repair experience (tractor-trailers, brakes, tires, engines)
- Light truck repair experience (trucks, vans, support vehicles)
- Internal combustible/diesel engine knowledge
- Automated/autonomous mobile equipment experience
Location: Onsite in Lansing, MIchigan
Shift/Schedule: 3rd shift
Compensation: $30.05/hr shift differential (IUOE Contract)
