Teachers are responsible for facilitating, initiating, directing and evaluating student learning, implementing the content of the curriculum, fostering creativity, problem solving and writing skills, encouraging self-initiated learning, teaching critical thinking skills, and teaching and modeling the use of relevant technologies. Additionally, teachers have various responsibilities for student supervision, participation in co-curricular activities, substituting teaching, and engaging in professional development. Teachers report directly to the Principal.
More specifically, the Music Teacher will teach courses in both vocal and instrumental music, in addition to the following:
responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive music curriculum that fosters students' musical talents and appreciation for various musical genres. The educator will lead instrumental and vocal ensembles, teach music theory, and engage students in creative musical experiences.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that cover music theory, history, and performance techniques.

Instruct students in vocal and instrumental performance, ensuring proper techniques and musical expression.

Organize and direct school music ensembles, including choir, band/ orchestra and co-curricular musical productions.

Prepare students for concerts, competitions, festivals, and other musical events.

Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to foster musical growth.

Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate music education across the curriculum.

Maintain an inventory of musical instruments and supplies, ensuring their proper care and use.
Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree in music education or a related field is required. Previous teaching experience in a high school setting is preferred.

Additional Information: All teachers are expected to be in their classroom by 7:45 a.m. and to remain in school until 3:15 p.m. They should be available to students during Activity Period unless they have notified students in advance of a conflict. When leaving the building during time when they do not have a professional responsibility such as teaching or subbing, teachers should sign out and back in using the Faculty Sign-in/out form in Managed Bookmarks. Other PTO should be requested in advance through Inova and reported to the Brescia Office so subs can be assigned. In addition, teachers are expected to complete additional responsibilities assigned by the principal and to abide by the policies and guidelines published in the Co-worker Handbook.
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, and sit; occasionally bend, stoop, and reach; and may require lifting and moving objects up to 25 pounds.
