Job Overview – Veterinary Assistant
We are seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our urgent care team. This role is essential in supporting veterinarians and technicians while delivering high-quality, efficient care in a fast-paced urgent care environment. Veterinary Assistants at Urgent Paws play a hands-on role in patient care, client communication, and team support, helping ensure a smooth and positive experience for both patients and their families during stressful situations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient triage and obtain accurate, urgent-care–focused patient histories
- Safely and compassionately restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Assist with treatments and procedures as directed by the veterinary team
- Clearly communicate treatment plan and discharges to clients
- Handle and lift patients weighing up to 50 pounds
- Support patient flow and maintain a clean, organized treatment area
- Communicate clearly and professionally with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff
- Provide compassionate, empathetic support to clients during urgent and emotional situations
- Demonstrate a strong collaborative work ethic and positive attitude in a team-centered environment
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous veterinary assistant experience preferred but not required; training will be provided
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced urgent care setting
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Positive, professional demeanor with a high level of empathy for clients and patients
- Ability to safely restrain and handle animals and lift up to 50 pounds
