What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant/Scribe position at Urgent Care?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant prepares patients and rooms for treatment and takes medical histories. This individual will assist the doctor in surgical procedures, dressing wounds, and laser procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining nursing supplies and triage, calling in prescriptions to pharmacies, and sterilizing equipment. The Medical Assistant will complete and submit medical billings, forms, and general medical office duties, as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing 80%.
- Sitting 20%.
- Medical and office setting.
- Minimum moving requirements of 50 pounds in order to assist Doctor with adjusting patients’ positions.
- Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, bending, crouching, and position changes in order to examine and service patients.
- Exceptional hand eye coordination and control in order to use equipment for exams, prepare castes and models, cut toe nails, and apply dressings.
- Frequent patient and interoffice personnel interaction as this position is primarily in direct contact with patients and requires excellent customer interaction.
- Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for taking patient temperature and blood pressure, and x-rays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Care for patients to give specified office treatments at the direction of the doctor.
- Maintain patient charts, complete insurance forms, and update as needed.
· Take patient vitals, blood and skin samples, as needed.
· Clean and dress wounds.
- Answer telephones, schedule appointments, help complete medical histories.
- Greet and direct patients and accept and process payment for products and services
- Call or write communications to patients for marketing or treatment reminders.
- Meet or exceed patient satisfaction goals within practice.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas.
- Must always represent the practice in a professional, pleasant, and cooperative manner.
- Must maintain regular, consistent and punctual attendance in accordance with assigned schedule and time off policies.
- Must be able to comfortably and efficiently handle multiple deadlines and task assignments.
- Must be able to work both independently and cooperatively in team settings.
- Must demonstrate active listening by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication skills by talking to others to convey information effectively, and actively listen.
- Occasionally there may be some travel, by car or plane, required in order to participate in continuing education or seminars.
- Oral delivery of scripts both in person and over the phone.
- Ability to hear and follow directions.
- Always maintain the highest level of confidentiality, HIPAA standards, adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures to OSHA, equipment use, and office standards.

REQUIREMENTS
· Must be flexible and understand that job duties may change from time to time and that this individual may be asked to assist in other areas of the office.
- Must excel in forward thinking in order to anticipate the needs of the doctor as well as the patient.
- Must demonstrate good reading comprehension by understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
- Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance and calibration on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
· Information Ordering - The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of three years of clinical experience including surgical support.
· Graduate of accredited Medical Assistants program.
· State licensure and/or certification.
· CPR Certification.
Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6.0 – 40.0 per week
