We are seeking a LOW VOLTAGE TECHNICIAN / INSTALLER to become an integral part of our team!Urban Communications, Inc. a leading provider of Broadband services located in the South/South West Suburbs of Chicago is looking for a Network Field Installer/Technician. Urbancom.net provides broadband internet, VoIP and related services to businesses and government agencies. Urbancom.net has built and manages our own point to point and point to multipoint microwave networks as well as builds and manages networks for government agencies in the surrounding area. Urbancom.net also operates the Cook County Chicago Southland Fiber Network. The position requires some tower climbing to effectuate repairs. This is not a full time tower climbing position. This position requires that you live close to our office in Oak Forest, ILQualifications:Previous experience in telecommunications, electrical engineering, or other related fields is preferred.Familiarity with telecommunications equipmentStrong analytical and critical thinking skillsStrong attention to detailExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to operate Laptop & ComputerAbility to lift 50 poundsPrior experience climbing towers and installing cellular/microwave equipment at all heights is preferredPrior Experience or interest in Fiber Optic splicing desiredResponsibilities:Installation of residential and commercial wireless networks, both independently and as part of a larger teamSupervise and assist fellow co-workers and tower climbers with maintenance and construction projectsWork safely and efficiently from a ladder and/or rooftopTerminate transmission lines including twisted-pair and coaxial cablesInstall cabling, mounts and radios neatly and in accordance with all local building codesweatherproof cabling and outdoor radio equipmentTroubleshoot wireless and wired network connectivity problemsConfiguration and troubleshooting of small office / home network services including wifi, DHCP, NAT, firewalls and port forwardingInstall and configure voice-over-internet-protocol (VOIP) endpointsPerform advanced bench testing & repair of wireless radios and network equipmentInstallation of WiFi hot spotsDocument, maintain, and order stock as neededInstall antenna, radios, and run cable for both residential and commercial installations in high places (on poles and roofs) as well as confined spaces and contend with seasonal elements during outdoor installations.Clean, maintain and stock vehicle with equipmentProperly operate and maintain installation tools and equipmentPerform any other duties as requested by supervisor in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives Climbing and installing equipment on towers and rooftops at heights of up to 350 feet, on occasionInstallation of antennas, cabling, connectors, grounding and lightning protectionInstallation of basic wireless hardware including hangers, angle adapters, cable trays and grounding equipmentTermination of transmission lines including twisted-pair and coaxial cablesWeatherproof cabling and outdoor radio equipmentEnsure that all personnel are in compliance with safety best practices, including 100% tie-off requirements for tower workInstallation and maintenance of indoor and outdoor network cabinets and racksWillingness to be trained to install microwave radios on communications towers (may require ability to climb towers from 150’ to 350’)Requirements:Ability to use basic cable installation tools and hand toolsExperience installing residential / commercial satellite and/or microwave radio equipmentAvailability for night/weekend work as neededProfessional appearance and an ability to communicate directly with customersWorking knowledge of computers and network technologiesStrong organizational skillsExcellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a teamAbility to interact with customers and co-workers; ability to communicate verballyKnowledge of and experience with :Internet fundamentals (TCP/IP addressing, routing, etcInternet applications and client configurationLAN/WAN equipmentRF, microwaveFiber Optic Cable Splicing & TestingInstallation and maintenance of LAN and telecommunications wiringThis position is a permanent full time position.Competitive wages are paid.Ability to work overtime as needed.Benefits include Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Insurance / IRS Sec. 125 plan / 401K plan.Candidates must be able to pass a background check, and drug screen.Must be 18 yrs. or older with a valid drivers license.Company DescriptionUrban Communications, Inc. is a leading provider of Broadband services located in the South/South West Suburbs of Chicago.
