JOB SUMMARY: The On-Call Security Systems Technician provides after-hours support for district buildings by responding to building security system alerts, fire alarms, and urgent staff needs. This position ensures district facilities remain safe and secure when school is not in session. The technician must be able to respond promptly to calls, communicate clearly with staff and emergency personnel, and take appropriate action to resolve issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

• Respond to after-hours calls from district security system vendors for burglar alarms, fire alarms, and system alerts.
• Provide assistance to district staff or teachers who may need support during non-school hours.
• Travel to district buildings when required, including late evenings, overnight, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• Meet and coordinate with police, fire, or other emergency responders on site as needed.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and operation of fire alarm and burglar alarm systems, including arming/disarming equipment.
• Verify building conditions, perform visual checks, and secure facilities after incidents or alarms.
• Communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully with first responders, building staff, and district leadership.
• Notify Facilities or building administration when issues require additional attention or exceed the scope of on-call authority.
• Submit a detailed written report via text, email, or phone call during regular business hours outlining actions taken and any follow-up needed.
• Provide clear, detailed follow-up communication to Facilities leadership and building administration after each call-out.
• Document system issues, actions taken, and recommendations for additional service or repairs
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with fire alarm and burglar alarm systems preferred.
• Ability to remain calm and communicate effectively in urgent or stressful situations.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work professionally with staff, law enforcement, fire departments, and vendors.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions when responding to after-hours incidents.

REQUIREMENTS

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass required background checks.
• Position requires availability during all non-school hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Frequent on-site responses in varying weather conditions.
• Some physical activity, including walking throughout buildings, using stairs, and handling alarm equipment.
• General knowledge of grounds maintenance, parking lot, playground maintenance, and construction.
• Constant bending, standing, stooping, walking, and lifting.
• Exertion up to 50 lbs to set and tear down lunch tables and equipment.
• Lifting up to 75 lbs of boxes, cabinets, and furniture.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• This is a position not within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
• Work schedule varies and includes weekends and on-call duty
• This is not an exempt position
• Twelve-month employee
• Pay rate minimum $40/hour (dependent on personal vehicle use)
• Overtime rate if internal employee
