TITLE: UMS Recapture Summer Program Teacher
LOCATIONS: Urbana Middle School
SUPERVISOR: This position reports directly to the program coordinator and building administration.
JOB SUMMARY: The UMS Recapture Teacher is responsible for establishing a developmentally appropriate summer learning environment. The mission of the program during the morning is to assist students in building their academic skills and start the next school year strong. The afternoon session is more focused on enrichment and career exploration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Prepare lesson plans and implement them to provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists students assigned to the classroom with achieving specific educational goals.
- Create a classroom environment that is welcoming to all students and supports the school mission statement.
- Supervise and collaborate with support staff assigned to the classroom to develop general classroom procedures, goals, schedules, behavior expectation and classroom activities for students.
- Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the classroom that expose a teen to a variety of experiences to broaden a teen’s perspective, such as field trips, cooking activities and experiments.
- Implement appropriate assessments and document student progress as required by the district and ISBE grant.
- Review, develop, and requisition materials for the classroom.
- Work in partnership with the UMS Recapture Coordinator to plan and encourage family involvement in the education of their teens.
- Establish and maintain procedures for communicating with families on a regular and frequent basis.
- Supervise and provide ongoing training for support staff assigned to the classroom.
- Complete progress reports and maintain student records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Meet all requirements for classroom teachers as outlined by the ISBE grant.
- Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools and/or the Leadership Team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE
- Internal applicants only
LICENSES/CREDENTIAL:
- Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement preferred
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate and work effectively on a collaborative team
- Ability to effectively work with students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Program runs Monday through Thursday, June 8 - July 16, 2026, closed June 19th for Juneteenth and July 6th for the 4th of July holiday
- Planning and meeting time is expected prior to the start of the program.
- Pay rate is $32/hour

- This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
