Security Guard-PT (6:30 - 10:30 am M-F)

Major Responsibility

This position is responsible for supporting the facilities of UV and CRJHS and ensuring the safety of staff, students, and community members. The campus, consisting of several buildings, is located in South Minneapolis and serves over 15,000 community members and program participants each year.

Specific Responsibilities

• Patrol and secure buildings and grounds to check for potential security and safety hazards, fire, water leaks, and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity 
• Ensure the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors, and the premises 
• Create access cards and staff/student IDs 
• Provide directions to buildings, offices, and other general information to visitors 
• Monitor and give direction to ensure proper parking practices are followed 
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls; escalate when appropriate 
• Write reports on incidents occurring on campus 
• Complete a daily check-out list 
• Provide reliable and courteous customer service to a variety of people including students, participants, staff, visitors, and vendors 
• Uphold company operating standards, including reliable attendance 
• Perform other duties as assigned 

 Qualifications & Experience

• Required: High school diploma or GED; minimum of 18 years of age 
• Minimum of two years' previous experience; educational or community-based organization environments preferred 
• Willingness and capability to follow verbal and written direction  
• Proficient technology skills including email, security programs, ID-making equipment, report writing (docs and sheets); Microsoft Office experience preferred 
• Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and solid relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs 
• Effective written and verbal communication skills to respond to the variety of scenarios faced in this role, including but not limited to: in-person conversations, incident reporting, follow-up communications via email, phone, in-person  
• An understanding of and respect for the faith-based mission and values of Urban Ventures and Cristo Rey Jesuit High School
• Successfully complete standard background check and required abuse prevention training (Archdiocese) for pre-employment and recurring every two years 
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus 

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and walking the main campus regularly, and other sites as needed 
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull 15-25 pounds regularly 

Travel:

• Occasional in-town travel to work functions 

Schedule:

• 20 hours per week; initial schedule 6:30 -10:30 am M-F
• Occasional evenings/weekends for special events (1-3 per year)
