About UrbanShift

Urban Shift Relocation Services (UrbanShift) manages one of the hardest parts of redevelopment. We focus on relocating residents during construction with transparency and respect so households are supported through every step of the process.

We work on projects in New York City and the surrounding region, partnering with developers, housing agencies, and nonprofits. Our projects are hands-on and detail driven. The work includes meeting with residents, explaining required notices and other documentation, coordinating moves, and managing vendors, schedules, and budgets.

We’re looking for steady, resident-centered team members who can support households through stressful transitions while keeping projects on track. If you’re organized, people-focused, and steady under pressure, this is a place where your work will have a direct impact on households and communities.

Role Overview

The Relocation Manager (RM) leads relocation operations on-site. The RM is responsible for overseeing staff, coordinating vendors, managing schedules and budgets, and ensuring residents experience a smooth, respectful relocation that complies with all federal, state, and local requirements. The RM is the primary on-site contact for residents and plays a central role in keeping the relocation process organized, compliant, and on track.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relocation activities at the assigned project sites from start to finish.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to direct reports, including relocation specialists, coordinators, and field staff.
  • Serve as the main on-site trouble shooter for residents and provide clear, respectful communication throughout the process.
  • Coordinate with contractors, property managers, and developers to align resident moves with construction schedules.
  • Identify available temporary or permanent apartments and assist with housing selection.
  • Oversee scheduling of inspections, move dates, and return-to-unit timelines.
  • Arrange and oversee moving services, including packers, movers, and storage vendors.
  • Arrange and oversee discarding services, including on-site dumpsters and assistance for “accumulator” households.
  • Assist residents with packing and unpacking, including seniors and households with mobility challenges.
  • Address resident questions, concerns, and grievances and escalate issues appropriately when additional support is required.
  • Track relocation budgets, claims, and vendor approvals, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Provide daily progress updates summarizing relocations completed, upcoming moves, and any issues requiring attention.
  • Maintain complete resident case files and ensure compliance with approved relocation plans and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Prepare regular progress updates and reports for project leadership.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in housing, relocation, logistics, property management, leasing, compliance and/or community/social services.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working directly with residents or clients in a supportive role.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple vendors and manage logistics under pressure.
  • Ability to provide leadership and oversight to staff in a project setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency using cloud-based tools for documents, spreadsheets, and project management.
  • Project-based role with the ability to commute to project sites in northern New Jersey and Westchester County.
