The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality and civil rights, is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for helping others to join our team as a Community Outreach Specialist supporting our Patch Community Center.

The Community Outreach Specialist works with community action groups, to include auxiliaries of the agency, to coordinate and develop programs to assist neighborhoods with the development and implementation of community-based action plans for neighborhood stabilization.

The Specialist will:

  • Assist with identifying, researching, defining, and analyzing community needs and challenges
  • Act as a liaison to affiliate organizations and other community groups to provide information and resources to the community
  • Coordinate and host community events in partnership with other agencies
  • Establish and maintain a database of community partners with which to coordinate events
  • Collect information regarding demographics of attendees of hosted events
  • Implement ongoing departmental programs consistent with the Agency's mission
  • Assist in identifying community resources to undertake collaborative efforts
  • Perform the day-to-day operations of the program to meet contractual goals and objectives, as well as perform other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate must have:

  • The ability to improve existing programs as well as create new programs
  • Excellent customer service
  • The ability to establish work priorities and remain flexible
  • Efficiently respond in a calm and effective manner to a variety of demands and projects
  • Communicate clearly and distinctly with visitors and telephone callers, provide courteous information and service to the public, organize and maintain record and filing systems
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature
  • Knowledge of common software applications
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related human service field with coursework in public administration
  • Two years of experience working with clients of all demographics and the general community are desirable
