JOB POSITION: Dental Assistant | Reports To: Back of House Manager

The dental assistant is the Dental Technician’s primary medical support. They aid the technician in achieving greater efficiency by assisting with dental procedures and relieving them of some administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about their pets.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma or equivalent.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum age of 18 years.
· Enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
· Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
· Is well spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature.
· Has experience working in a team environment and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
· Has excellent client communication skills.
· Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.
· Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
SPECIFIC DUTIES |
Patient and Client Care
· Assist in dental procedures
- Help admit and discharge patients according to hospital policy
- Monitor patient under anesthesia
- Dental charting
- Placing IV catheters, giving premeds
- Recovering patients from anesthesia
· Prepare accurate dental estimates
· Manage and maintain dental schedule
- Perform dental cleanings (once properly trained)
· Maintain dental equipment
- Responsible for daily cleaning and care of equipment
· In addition to all above, may be asked to help on the floor as needed or when the dentals are light.
