Position Summary
Upstaging is hiring a Fabrication Project Manager / Technical Project Manager to oversee custom build projects including stage scenery, trade show exhibits, kiosks, props, pop-up displays, and experiential installations.
This role combines technical design, client coordination, and shop-floor leadership. You’ll manage projects from early concept and engineering through fabrication, installation, and final delivery, working closely with clients and internal production teams.
What You’ll Do
Project & Client Management
- Partner with clients to translate creative ideas into build-ready technical solutions
- Manage schedules, budgets, materials, and multiple projects at once
- Coordinate timelines and deliverables from design through final install
- Communicate daily with internal departments and external vendors
Technical Design & Documentation
- Create and review detailed AutoCAD drawings and shop-ready construction plans
- Prepare build packages including hardware specs, assembly instructions, and rigging details
- Review drawings for accuracy, safety, and feasibility prior to fabrication
Fabrication Oversight
- Oversee shop workflow and monitor build progress and quality standards
- Inspect materials, finishes, and assemblies to ensure installation readiness
- Troubleshoot structural, rigging, and assembly challenges as they arise
- Support installations and site work as needed
Preferred Technical Background
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD (required)
- Experience with scenic construction, carpentry, metal fabrication, welding, CNC routing, and scenic finishes
- Familiarity with rigging practices, OSHA safety standards, fire ratings, and trade show regulations
- Understanding of lighting, AV integration, and networking is a plus
Helpful Experience (Not Required)
- Client quoting and project budgeting
- Graphic production or branding integration
- Vendor sourcing and material procurement
- Experience using Excel, Word, Illustrator, or Photoshop
- Portfolio of scenic, fabrication, or exhibit work
Qualifications
- 3–5 years in fabrication, scenic production, technical theater, or event production
- Proven ability to manage complex build projects and shop teams
- Strong communication skills with both technical staff and clients
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical experience preferred
Work Environment & Compensation
- Full-time, on-site role (Monday–Friday, occasional overtime)
- Limited travel for installations and client site visits
- Salary range: $55,000 – $85,000 annually, based on experience
