Substitute Custodian

Substitute Custodian Hours: On call (as needed)
Hourly Rate: $18.00/Hour
Availability: Immediately
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
- Shovels, plows, and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate.
- Opens or closes the building as appropriate to shift. In closing the building, determines before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, and that all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and are operating properly during hours of building occupancy.
- Responsible for arming and disarming the security system, as appropriate to shift.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and/or as directed by the supervisor.
- Reports to the supervisor any damage to school property.
- Vacuum to remove dust from window sills, counter tops, chalk trays, univents, and AV equipment. Clean blinds and shades.
- Vacuum hard surfaces and floors.
- Clean and scrub desk tops and remove any graffiti.
- Spot mop hard surface floors; use auto-scrubber and burnish floors.
- Wash and disinfect drinking fountains.
- Clean restrooms including toilet bowls, urinals, and sinks daily. Wipe toilet partitions and remove graffiti. Clean and polish metal work and mirrors.
- Replace burned-out lights and damaged ceiling tiles.
- Clean glass.
- Perform summer cleaning including stripping, scrubbing, cleaning edges and corners, applying finish and burnishing.
- Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment.
- Pick up trash and debris around the buildings.
- Clean custodial closets and equipment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience with building maintenance/custodial services and building systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and cooperatively work with others.
- Good communication skills.
- Able to work with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to climb and descend 10 steps on a stepladder.
- Must be able to stand and walk for up to eight hours/day.
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
