What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sonographer position at UPMC?
UPMC Somerset is seeking a Full-time Sonographer to join their team. The Sonographer performs imaging procedures at an advanced level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of advanced technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. The position will work a variable schedule to support the needs of the department including a holiday and weekend rotation.
Responsibilities:
- Exhibits advanced level of knowledge related to normal anatomy and pathology. Able to recognize pathology and the ability to think critically, assessing the patient results for communication with the physician.
- Works directly with Radiologists regarding protocol development.
- Performs all job responsibilities of Level I Sonographer.
- Assist with the training of staff and student sonographers.
- Participates in standardization activities with system-level workgroups.
- Conveys results to patients and ordering clinicians where appropriate and when given permission by attending physician.
- Performs or assists Clinical Specialist in performing QA, regulatory testing, and other technical and research initiatives.
- Demonstrates the ability to function independently, and is able to cover off shifts, on-call responsibilities, and perform services at satellite facilities, where applicable, while continually communicating with lead and management team.
