The primary role of the Software Engineer, Senior (DevOps) is to design, implement, and optimize enterprise DevOps platform capabilities, including Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment automation for the UPMC Application Engineering organization.
This individual contributes to the strategic planning, standardization, and evolution of automated software delivery processes, supporting the development, testing, and release of modern and legacy applications. The role partners closely with software engineering, quality engineering, release management, and platform teams to improve scalability, reliability, and efficiency across the software development lifecycle.
The position requires a broad technical background, strong problem-solving and automation skills, and a demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement across systems, processes, and teams.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain standardized CI/CD pipeline frameworks, reusable templates, and shared DevOps tooling to support enterprise-scale adoption
Define and enforce standards for pipeline configuration, source control, branching strategies, deployment practices, and integrated DevSecOps capabilities such as automated testing, security scanning, and quality gates
Contribute to the evolution of a centralized DevOps platform to improve consistency, security, and scalability across teams
Identify opportunities to improve software delivery through automation across build, deploy, QA, and release processes
Act as a technical consultant to application teams, providing guidance and hands-on support for CI/CD adoption, DevOps best practices, and modernizing software delivery practices
