Spend 10 weeks working inside one of our hospital-based clinical labs in Northcentral PA — learning from experienced Medical Laboratory Scientists, getting exposure to real testing environments, and building the foundation for a future career with UPMC.
About the Lab Internship Program
UPMC's 10-week Lab Internship Program gives science students the opportunity to put what they've learned in the classroom into practice. This is a full-time, paid, hands-on experience designed for students who are serious about exploring lab careers. During the internship, you will:
- Work side-by-side with experienced clinical laboratory professionals
- Gain exposure to high-volume, high-acuity lab environments
- Learn how lab teams support real-time patient care
- Build confidence performing hands-on, detail-oriented lab tasks
- Grow your resume while exploring career pathways within UPMC
- Network with lab leadership and learn about future lab career opportunities
If you're interested in becoming a Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLT, or pursuing any clinical lab profession, this experience will help you sharpen your skills and see what a real hospital lab environment looks like day-to-day.

Program Recruitment Expectations
- Applications open December 29th, 2025
- Program runs June 1st, 2026, through August 7th, 2026
- Preferred graduation dates: Fall 2026, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027
- Full-time availability is required with limited time off during the 10-week program
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor of Science program from an accredited college/university
- Accepted majors include: biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science
- Completion of at least two semesters in your degree program
Licensure / Clearances
- Additional clearances may be required based on location
