Position Title: Patient Financial Counselor
Location: Upland Hills Health - Dodgeville Hospital Campus
Role & Department: Patient Financial Counselor in the Patient Financial Services Department
Hours & Shift: Full-time (1.0 FTE) day shift position, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Role Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all self-pay account collections
- Establishing payment plans with patients as necessary in accordance with hospital policies, along with timely monitoring of those accounts
- Assisting patients with billing issues and questions
- Assisting patients with complaints regarding their accounts
- Meeting with patients to determine uncompensated care within the guidelines of the organization’s financial assistance program
- Monitors and refers accounts to collections in accordance with hospital policies
- Assists the collection agency with questions and follow-up and approval of accounts for lawsuits
- Process returned mail and update accounts with correct addresses
- Respond to all phone calls from patients, insurance companies or other departments in an efficient and courteous manner
Qualifications:
- Two year or greater education degree preferred with a preference in accounting or related business type of field
- Minimum of two years healthcare or insurance experience preferred
- Strong computer skills are required; Microsoft Word and Excel experience are preferred
- Excellent communication skills required
- Excellent customer service skills required
- Prior Epic experience is preferred
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and prioritize as needed
