Position Summary
The Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for the installation, fabrication, and repair of HVAC and architectural sheet metal systems on commercial and industrial projects. This role interprets drawings and specifications, installs ductwork and related components to code and company standards, and works safely as part of a field crew.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications for ductwork and sheet metal installations.
- Measure, cut, bend, assemble, and install sheet metal components including duct, fittings, hangers, and accessories.
- Install air distribution systems (supply, return, exhaust, and ventilation) including dampers, diffusers, grilles, and registers.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal equipment (shears, brakes, Pittsburgh machines, etc.) safely and efficiently.
- Lay out and install hangers, supports, and sleeves per plans, codes, and company standards.
- Perform basic field layout from plans and coordinate with other trades to avoid conflicts.
- Seal duct systems and verify basic quality (proper alignment, support spacing, and airflow considerations).
- Follow company safety procedures, use required PPE, and participate in jobsite safety meetings.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and care for company tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- 2 years of experience in commercial/industrial sheet metal or HVAC duct installation (or equivalent apprenticeship training).
- Working knowledge of basic sheet metal tools, equipment, and installation techniques.
- Ability to read and understand basic construction drawings and ductwork details.
- Familiarity with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials; work from ladders, lifts, and confined spaces as required.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
