Skills Trainer

Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older and eligible to work in the United States
- A sincere desire to work with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)
- Associate of Arts degree in a human services field (e.g., special education or social work) or a minimum of two years’ experience working with adults with developmental disabilities, preferably in a residential setting
- Commitment to promoting independent living, community integration, and inclusion for individuals with I/DD
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and behavior management techniques for adults with I/DD
- Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license, automobile insurance, acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle
- Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding personal information
- Must consent to and pass a criminal background check and be bondable
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule and be on call, as needed
Required Certifications*
*We provide on-the-job training and financial support for required certifications. The following must be completed within 30 days of hire (unless otherwise noted):
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Oregon Food Handler’s Card
- Tuberculosis (TB) test (required upon hire)
Description of Duties
- Complete participant assessments and develop individual service plans
- Schedule and participate in team meetings
- Establish and oversee training schedules for each participant
- Train and support instructors in implementing training strategies
- Observe, evaluate, and review the quality of staff training weekly and semi-annually
- Coordinate behavior management procedures, including incident response and documentation
- Plan and facilitate both formal and informal training opportunities for participants
- Organize and lead integrated activities and community outings
- Conduct weekly house meetings and encourage meaningful engagement for participants
- Ensure accurate documentation of all activities and progress
- Provide new staff orientation and ongoing training related to skill development and behavior management
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency and quality in services

Physical Requirements
- Ability to independently lift and carry 25–100 pounds
- Continuous standing, walking, and changing positions throughout the shift (including uneven surfaces)
- Occasional climbing of stairs or ramps (indoor and outdoor)
- Frequent use of hands, arms, and fingers, including grasping and lifting
- Occasional overhead reaching
Miscellaneous Duties
- Provide on-call services as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Assist in developing and improving program procedures
- Meet regularly with the administrator and/or executive director to provide updates
- Comply with Oregon Administrative Rules and agency policies and procedures
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 18 per week
