The Opportunity

Lead one of Australia's most ambitious and transformative initiatives in First Peoples medical education, clinical innovation and health equity.

Working within the Blakcademy, you will provide First Peoples leadership across the School of Clinical Medicine, shaping the clinical capabilities of future doctors and influencing how culturally safe healthcare is taught, practised, and experienced.

This is a unique academic appointment that brings together clinical practice, education, leadership and community impact. You will have the opportunity to continue practising as a medical doctor, maintaining your clinical expertise while contributing to the education of future clinicians through authentic, practice-informed teaching. Eligible medical practitioners will receive clinical loading in recognition of maintaining active clinical practice alongside academic leadership.

As part of a growing network of First Peoples leaders, you will help design the next generation of medical education by developing innovative clinical teaching, embedding culturally safe models of care throughout the curriculum, mentoring future Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander doctors, and strengthening partnerships with communities and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.

You will play a pivotal role in advancing a nationally significant approach to First Peoples health education that integrates Indigenous scholarship, evidence-informed practice and community partnership. Through your leadership, you will contribute to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples while transforming how Australia's future medical workforce learns, practises and leads in partnership with First Peoples communities.

This is more than an academic appointment—it is an opportunity to shape the future of medical education, influence national reform, and leave a lasting legacy for generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the doctors who will care for them.
