Research and Technical Staff Talent Pool

The University of New Mexico is committed to supporting our employees through times of funding uncertainty. The Term Retention Initiative (TRI) Program offers a proactive solution to retain valued research and technical staff whose term appointments are ending due to the loss of federal or external funding.

The Research and Technical Staff Talent Pool is open to qualified term-appointed employees. By applying to this talent pool, you will be considered for future research and technical positions across UNM without needing to apply individually to each position.

Positions included in the Talent Pool (but not limited to):

• Research Techs
• Research Scientists
• Research Engineers
• Data Analysts or Data Managers
• Community Health Workers
• IT Classifications

Note: Appointment percentage, FLSA status, compensation, staff type, remote work eligibility, department and position location may vary based on campus hiring needs.

How To Qualify:

• Must be a current term appointment staff who received notice that their term is not extended due to contract or grant cancellation, non-renewal, or other reduction in federal funding. 
• Must be in good standing with a successful performance evaluation and no documented disciplinary action within the past 12 months.
• Must meet the minimum qualifications for the vacant position. 

How It Works:

1.  Single Application Process: Apply once to be included in the TRI talent pool for research and technical positions.
2.  Be Considered for Current Opportunities; Your application will be reviewed by departments with current or upcoming research or technical vacancies.
3.  Potential for Direct Placement: Departments may choose to fill open positions directly from the pool.
