General Summary: Supports the USM Summer Camp’s mission through teaching the assigned courses to 1st - 8th grade campers. Provides innovative instruction to meet a variety of camper needs, in alignment with the program’s curriculum goals. Leads campers towards fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth and maturation. Motivates campers to develop skills in the assigned camp activities or subject area(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates a learning environment that is conducive to learning with lessons and activities that are appropriate to the maturity and interest of the campers.
- Demonstrates a versatile skill set with the capability to effectively teach and convey knowledge across a variety of different subjects.
- Plans instruction consistent with USM Summer Camps approved curriculum for campers.
- Creates a supportive learning environment for all campers that encourages social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
- Works collaboratively with administration to advise, plan, and implement effective interventions.
- Prepares for classes as assigned and shows evidence of lesson preparation upon request.
- Establishes and maintains standards of campers behavior needed to achieve an optimal learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Completes other tasks as deemed appropriate by the camp leadership.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong content knowledge in subject area/grade level.
- Strong knowledge of best practices in instruction.
- Ability to differentiate instruction in mixed ability classrooms.
- Strong understanding of K-8 campers.
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability and the desire to work with a diverse camper body.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and maintain positive professional relationships.
- Ability to read, comprehend, follow and give oral and written instructions.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with a strong degree of self- direction and motivation.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education preferred
- 3-5 years teaching experience preferred
