General Summary: Lead engaging, enrichment-based specialty classes for students in grades K–8, depending on the class at University School of Milwaukee (USM) in order to provide an enriching and educationally sound experience, in alignment with institutional needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach 3–4 after-school specialty classes per week.
  • Plan and deliver interactive, well-structured lessons aligned with the subject or program theme.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
  • Apply effective classroom management techniques to maintain a safe and focused learning space.
  • Differentiate and adapt instruction to accommodate different learning styles, age groups, and abilities.
  • Communicate regularly with the Specialty Programs Lead, and the Associate Director of Auxiliary Programs leadership about class progress, student needs, and supply requirements.
  • Set up and manage any materials needed for class activities.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Auxiliary Programs to plan, advise, and implement strategies for student success.
  • Support the program’s overall goals by contributing to additional tasks as assigned by the Associate Director of Auxiliary Programs.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean work and learning environment.
  • Evaluate situations for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Maintains records and files as needed.
  • Handle inquiries from students, parents, and the general public.

  • Strong classroom management and group leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage student behavior in a positive and respectful way.
  • High level of maturity, confidentiality, and assertiveness.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot issues and problem-solve.
  • Capable of competently operating technology

 Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or college coursework in education or related fields is preferred.
  • Prior experience teaching or leading structured programming for school-age children and/or working with children in a camp, classroom, or recreational setting is preferred.
  • CPR/AED Certification (or willingness to obtain).
