What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of The Language Institute (0.8 FTE) position at University Presbyterian Church?
SUMMARY
The UPC mission is: We are a family of communities joining Jesus to transform our lives and the lives of neighbors at the University of Washington, in our neighborhoods, and all around the world. This position fulfills the mission of the Language Institute (LI) and administers all facets of the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attends department and UPC weekly staff meetings.
- Participates in corporate worship at UPC, when presence is requested. (Be a welcoming presence at UPC for Christmas and Easter worship services.)
- Supervision of volunteers. (Meets regularly. Provides coaching to ensure growth in individual areas.)
- Develops yearly financial plan in collaboration with the Director of Outreach and is responsible for day-to-day management of financial plan.
- Determines goals, policies and volunteer needs in collaboration with the Outreach team to support the UPC vision and mission.
- Strategic Planning, Partnership Development and Professional Engagement. (Develops LI strategic plans with Director of Outreach. Administration, Fundraising, and Publicity. Oversees LI budget and ensures that all financial goals are met through fees, grants and fundraising. Funding is not from the Operating Fund. Develops and maintains donor support. Writes grants as needed. Publicizes volunteer and donor opportunities at UPC and in community.)
- Working with Team Members. (Works with Outreach department and wider UPC community on various tasks and projects, including collaboration between LI and Global Friends.)
- Working with Volunteers. (Oversees volunteer recruitment, training, development, and community building.)
- Working with Students. (Recruits, tests, registers and assists students in UPC classes and at off-site programs.)
- Curriculum Planning. (Using up-to-date knowledge of the TESOL field, provide individualized instructional materials for one-to-one tutoring and assist in planning curricula for classes (both at UPC and off-site).)
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep and growing faith in Jesus Christ and a theology consistent with the mission of UPC. Has read and understood the Essential Tenets and agreed to support them in the work they do at UPC.
- Cross-cultural competency and awareness. Ability to patiently work with people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and religious views.
- Bachelor’s in TESOL; MA TESOL (or related field) preferred; minimum BA degree.
- Minimum of two years working in TESOL field, with hands-on teaching experience.
- Experience in fundraising.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and proficient with social media.
- Ability to calmly manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- An approachable and friendly spirit, easy to smile and a “can-do” attitude.
- Ability to understand and keep within a budget.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- This job is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk and hear.
SPECIAL/OTHER
- This is a full-time 40 hours/week position, except for 10.5 weeks when no classes are in session. Paid at .80 year-round. Full time benefits.
- Ability to travel to off-site classes and meetings is required.
